Selwyn D. van Rooyen, President & Chief Consultant
Mr. van Rooyen has a broad financial accounting and information technology experience base that he brings to Wyn Consulting. Prior to founding Wyn Consulting, he was a successful Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at a rapidly growing chain of physician offices based in Richmond, Virginia where he headed up the company’s financial accounting and information technology efforts. Prior to this, he gained experience in CPA firms where he handled client needs in the areas of accounting software implementation, setup, and support. While at the CPA firms, he also consulted in the areas of financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, tax, audit, and internal controls.
When he was first brought on as the CFO at the physician’s group, his immediate task was to implement an internal accounting system and set the company up with systems and procedures for tracking and collecting receivables. He was also given the charge to control spending. He set the accounting system up, including standardizing the chart of accounts between entities, and established procedures surrounding the tracking and collection of receivables including establishing strict time frames surrounding collection efforts. He also established accounts payable approval measures and established budgets for each expense line item, producing budget-to-actual reports to track progress. Once the systems were set up appropriately, he was then responsible for managing all accounting tasks, including the production of the monthly consolidated financials, the development of location, expansion, and overhead budgets, and was responsible for producing financial projections for up to eight years into the future for the company. He also managed all of the information technology needs, such as the replacement of computer systems, software upgrades, troubleshooting, etc.
Mr. van Rooyen continues to help clients to implement accounting systems and ensure that the appropriate internal controls are put in place surrounding the accounting process, accounting system, and information system. He holds a BS in Accounting, an MBA with an Information Technology specialization, is an Advanced Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor, is a certified BillQuick advisor, and is a Microsoft Professional Accountants Network Consultant.
